Gallivanting on a weekend becomes more tricky come winter season but that shouldn't stop one from exploring! Also, another option would be to sulk indoors and before you know it, darkness will be peeping again (it gets dark around 4 pm this time of the year). We made it a morning habit to go out and catch some sun whenever it's not pouring. We tried to brave the rain last weekend and that was the start of my demise, I was down with a flu this week and it is NOT fun at all! Thankfully, I'm feeling better now and I'm hoping to be healthy from here on because there's just so many food to try and places to see! Enter Borough market.... Borough Market is a wholesale and retail food market in Southwark, London, England. It is one of the largest and oldest food markets in London, with a market on the site dating back to at least the 12th century. The present buildings were built in the 1850s, and today the market mainly sells speciality foods to the general public. Source: Wikipedia Nearest tube station is London bridge.
Go there early
It can get so busy especially during weekends. We went there to get a breakfast, note though that some of the stores will just be setting time at this time of day. I like to see it because it reminds me of real market. Not the plastic-y ones but a real market that I know since I was a kid.
Buy local produce
We bought black kale, fresh blackberries, variety of mushrooms and pancetta as takeaways.
Eat in bits and pieces
Don't gulp in the first food, however enticing, you see. Leave some room because this place is magic!
Few recommendations
Monmouth for coffee, Konditor for small cupcakes and Rabot 1745.
Don't be afraid to communicate and try things
It's comforting to see local vendors in aprons, asking you to try food so please be nice. Don't feel compelled to buy all their products but I always support local vendors compared to big, commercial establishments whenever I can. -CMK
